Meet The Artist
Artist Statement
I am a mixed media artist with a primary focus in ceramics, supported by experience in drawing, painting, textiles, and woodworking. My ceramic practice is rooted in handbuilding, with an emphasis on slab construction, coil building, pinching, mold making, and slip casting. I am drawn to processes that allow for intentional form while leaving space for play, variation, and material discovery.
Surface design is central to my work. I primarily use underglaze for imagery and color, and I fire my ceramics to cone 6. Recently, I have been expanding my surface approach by incorporating commercial glazes, experimenting with glaze layering, and exploring how different finishes interact with underglaze. I am also beginning to develop my own glazes, with a growing interest in glaze chemistry and how subtle material shifts affect surface quality, depth, and atmosphere.
Conceptually, my work is driven by a desire to evoke joy and childlike wonder. I am increasingly interested in how ceramic objects function within mixed media installations, where they move beyond individual objects to become part of an immersive environment. Through scale, repetition, color, and material contrast, I aim to create experiences that momentarily transport viewers into a different reality—one rooted in curiosity, softness, and emotional openness.
Bio
In addition to creating art, I enjoy spending time with family, roadtrips, hiking in the Pacific north west, playing gin rummy, not puzzles, lounging with my cats, writing poetry, learning new things, how I met your mother, Fiona apple, the occasional 2000s country music, oat milk lattes, ice cream, thrift shopping, staying at home for days on end, and lists. I have 3 cats and grew up on the kind of farm that just has animals to keep as pets. I'm from Moore, Oklahoma and see this as my home base. I have big dreams of traveling for my art career and graduate program but believe I am right where I'm meant to be.
