Material Exploration: Summer '26
My work is rooted in an interdisciplinary practice where concepts dictate the choice of material and process. Rather than committing to a single medium, I let each concept determine the materials and processes it requires. This way of working encourages constant experimentation, material exploration, and play.
Along the way, I often learn new techniques to bring a project to life. Some of these skills remain dormant until another idea calls for them, while others become lasting parts of my artistic vocabulary. I embrace this evolving process, allowing my practice to grow with each new question, material, and body of work.
Sampler Scarf
Using a 6 treadle floor loom, I am exploring different weaving patterns and color combinations while making a functional scarf for my first time, using a floor loom!

I recently acquired a floor loom from a dear friend and have toyed with the idea of learning for years. The interest spawns from my elementary school art teacher, Mr. Cargal, who had a legendary loom in this room that I awed over for years. Weaving is also the craft my mother-in-law specialized in, so this is an opportunity for me to connect with her from beyond the grave.
Spinning Wheel
This spinning wheel is well loved and needs some fixing up. I am currently studying the original plans with hopes of getting her back up in running.

After fixing her up, I will graduate from a drop spindle to spinning yarn on this beauty! I plan to start with some angora rabbit fibers as well as some mystery animal fibers that I acquired from an estate sale.
Adjustable Apparel
Inspired by slow fashioned designer, The Flower Iris, I am learn the process of making adjustable clothing.

Like many other women, I have always struggled with weight fluctuation. I am currently exploring clasps, elastic, and draw strings as an alternative to zippers and tight seams in attempt to practice sustainability by keeping waste down and not contribiuting to the addition of textiles to the landfill.
Liquid Latex
Lately I have been heavily inspired by the works of Heidi Bucher, Eva Hesse, and contemporary artist Janine Grosche.

This material exploration has led to lots of play and experimentation through the incorporation of different materials. During this process I am thinking of the remnants of my house fire and my upcoming solo exhibition, Where the Smoke Settled".
Gouache Portrait Book
Gouache is by far my favorite painting medium recently, if you exclude underglaze! Though I have very little experience in 2D media, I do love enjoy adding some crazy surface design to my sculptures.

This 40 page wet media book is a painting study to encourage loose brush strokes and play. I hope that this exploration will help to push my ceramic surface design to another level while deepening my understanding of the figure and expression.
