This work investigates the intersection of memory and maturity through a large-scale, circus themed installation. I use sculpture and fiber arts to explore the beauty of childhood and the curiosity of ‘what could have been,’ while grounding the work in an appreciation for the present.
The circus serves as my central metaphor, a space of transient wonder, tottering between play and performance. By constructing these environments, I am visually archiving the sensation of clinging to childhood even as it recedes. I am fascinated by the 'what-if,’ the alternative lives and versions of self that we leave behind as we grow. This exploration is not an act of regret, but a curious, tender examination of the paths untraveled.
My process is a dialogue between materials. I pair the structural permanence of wood and steel with the repetitive, domestic labor of hand-pieced textiles and needle felting.
At the core of my practice is a commitment to community. By transforming the gallery from a vacuum into a shared resource, I bridge gaps across the spectrum of accessibility. These immersive, tactile environments lower the barriers between viewer and work, fostering a space where the community can gather to reflect on their own histories and find joy in the current moment.
